Through our internal training academy, Blackbelt, our team are constantly developing. Our current prospectus includes training on everything from statistics to behavioural economics with top industry professionals, personal development sessions on Impact and Influence with RADA, as well as more bespoke courses, such as authors explaining the art of storytelling.
Basis Labs is our internal forum for sharing ideas and new thinking. Consisting of regular presentations and reports from both within and without, it's our way of keeping things interesting. In the last year we've been delving into the worlds of facial coding, behavioural economics and geolocation mobile surveys.
An active and enthusiastic part of company life, the newly formed Basis Charity Committee is always on the lookout for effective and fun ways to contribute to local charities - whether that’s through organising fundraising activities or by donating our research skills. Moreover, with a wide range of events coming up both inside the office and out, the Committee is looking to make a real charitable splash in the New Year – so watch this space!

Our people

Andy is the founder and Chairman of Basis. He founded Basis in 1991, having previously worked in brand management for Unilever, advertising planning, and design strategy. He is a qualitative specialist and is particularly interested in creative development and the impact of technology on consumer behaviour, he has conducted research in all major international markets.
Rune is Managing Director of Basis. He has over ten years’ experience of quantitative research, specialising in brand development, marketing, and media research. Prior to joining Basis, he worked at NOP (in both their global brand tracking and media research teams) and i to i, where he specialised in marketing effectiveness research. He specialises particularly in international brand tracking at a major scale, innovation research, marketing effectiveness, and advanced analytics. He has a BA in Politics & Society from Birkbeck University in London.
Charlotte joined Basis after graduating from Oxford University in 2002. A qualitative specialist, she’s now our Head of Qualitative. She’s worked across a great many sectors, in particular TV, communications, technology, and retail. She’s especially experienced in researching younger and youth audiences. Charlotte is passionate about the challenges of international research, and has managed projects across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North and South America, and Africa. Charlotte served on the AQR Committee for two years.
Lynsey came on board as our Head of Quantitative in Summer 2012, following seven years at 2CV and five years in Research International’s Consumer team. She’s worked across almost every sector at a local and global level, with her most recent work focusing on entertainment, media, and telecoms.

Lynsey brings an expertise in working on integrated projects, having spent many years understanding how best to combine qual, quant, and external information sources so as to provide the most comprehensive research solutions for her clients.
Mark joined Basis in 2015 to help shape the methodological and intellectual thinking behind the work we do. A wide and dynamic remit from understanding how brands work to data integration, digital techniques, and the practical application of behavioural science thinking.

Prior to joining Basis Mark has run his own research consultancy as well as set up profitable business units in other research agencies; usually by doing research better and differently to what’s gone before. A back catalogue of work that has seen him practice both qual and quant putting him in a strong position to develop tools and thinking from either discipline.
Dan recently joined Basis from the qual-led innovation consultancy Promise Communispace, where his work focused on customer proposition development for the likes of Aviva, Bupa, EE, Philips and Danone. He specialises in consumer-led innovation - using co-creation techniques that bring together businesses and their customers to develop new products and services.
As a curious bunch of researchers, Basis have always self-funded their own research projects to get a better understanding of what’s going on with consumers; what they’re buying, thinking, how they live their lives, how they keep themselves and their families entertained, etc. It’s my job to get these stories out there. To ensure that the right people (insight, marketing, and brand teams) get to see and hear them. This might mean you get a call from me, or perhaps an email. Or I may be send you an invite to a seminar or breakfast session… The role is varied but the goal is very straightforward; Basis has some great stories to tell, that we know you’ll want to hear – it’s my job to make sure you get the chance.
